Transcending Ideologies

historical summary

The political systems over the past three centuries have been divided into right and left, and this term emerged during the French Revolution in 1789. The French Revolution is known as the revolution that changed the course of political reality in the world. Supporters of the king, backed by religious authority, were called the right-wing, while supporters of the revolution, which called for France to be a republic, were referred to as the left-wing. After the victory of the revolution, in the French parliament, those who advocated for France to maintain its old systems (the conservatives) sat to the right of the president of the parliament, while the revolutionaries sat to his left.

During the evolution of global political thought, the political right has tended to lean towards capitalist and conservative policies, while the systems advocating for socialism have been referred to as leftist organizations or parties. The political center first emerged in Russia in the early twentieth century (1919) during the Russian Civil War, and the concept of the center was a choice between the Bolshevik left (red) and the relatively rightist Mensheviks (white). However, the political center in Russia quickly dissolved into leftist Bolshevism during the Civil War.

The movements of the political center around the world then multiplied, and it became known as a system that follows a kind of balance between equality (advocated by the left) and the preservation of social hierarchy (advocated by the right). The political center in most countries of the world continued to call for a type of economic freedoms (right) while considering social control and limiting individual freedoms (left); this current was represented in Sudan by the Umma Party. There are also political center systems that called for the opposite, leaning to the left in economics by adopting socialism and to liberalism in personal and community freedoms (right); this current was represented in Sudan by the Federalists, and in Britain by the Labour Party. When talking about the Federalists and the Umma Party, it specifically refers to the split of the Graduates' Conference after 1938, not the Umma and Federal parties after each allied successively with the Khatmiyya and the Ansar.

Crossing Ideologies

It is an emerging trend in modern political thought that accepts the validity of various ideologies and seeks to consolidate them into a comprehensive pragmatic framework, transcending the known political binaries (right and left). This approach is different from centrism (a duality of thought) that adheres to one political ideology in some aspects and commits to other political ideologies in other aspects, as explained above in the paragraph discussing the political center.

Binaa Sudan Party adopts a political approach that transcends ideologies, aiming to find common ground among the components of society without prior bias, thus overcoming traditional political polarization towards the left or right on any issue. Common ground is established through proven scientific methods that facilitate community dialogue, deliberations, and the resolution of social and political disputes. It seeks to form executive programs based on the interests of the community as a whole by involving the conversing community in the formulation of executive programs without hierarchy. These programs are formulated in accordance with the guidance of community dialogue by integrated teams of experts with diverse academic backgrounds and experiences.

The cross-ideological political orientation adopted by the Sudanese shadow government since its formation in December 2013, and now embraced by Binaa Sudan Party, is also present in various political organizations, the most prominent of which is the French party "La République En Marche!" founded by Emmanuel Macron in 2016. This party managed to secure a majority that enabled it to win the French presidency in 2017, making Macron the President of France. The party also won the subsequent legislative elections, forming the parliamentary majority. In the United States, one of the most important organizations with a cross-ideological orientation is the American Mediators Foundation, which describes itself as "We are a rising American movement – conservatives and liberals, centrists and moderates. We are American citizens creating a bridge between the growing divisions in our political system. We have come together, in civility, culture, respect, and kindness to solve problems together." (Source: Mediators Foundation website). There is also the Cross-Ideological Alliance (Transpartisan Alliance), which defines itself by saying, "We connect citizens and ideas freely regardless of political, religious, ethnic, or economic thought. If the two-party system does not provide real leadership, we will find it or create it together as a people. We, the people, are the change we seek." (Source: Seattle Alliance for Cross-Ideologicals website).

The people are the source of awareness

We at Binaa Sudan Party, as a party that transcends ideologies, believe that the people are the source of awareness, unlike other political movements and parties that seek to educate the people. We believe that development and societal awareness are the result of the economic, political, educational, and social realities of society, rather than awareness being what creates reality. We also believe that diversity is a source for enhancing and increasing individual and societal awareness. Since an individual's awareness is a result of their reality/environment (education, experiences, expertise, social relationships, economic status, etc.), individual awareness is capable of creating a new reality and a different future for the individual. In this context, we do not seek to educate the people; rather, we strive to provide a decent life for the people, as they wish for it, not as it is adopted by elites biased towards different ideologies. We aim to provide continuous (even if partial) improvement in their economic and service conditions through all possible and available democratic and legal means, because the reality of society shapes its awareness and thus improves its future and creates a new reality for the better. In short, we believe that development is what creates awareness, and the resulting awareness is capable of creating better development, which in turn creates better awareness, and so on, in a continuous improvement in both development and awareness.
